The Los Angeles Theatre ensemble

Dr. Allen believes in two things: the power a group has to heal itself and the power of music.  What begins as an awkward experiment in musical group therapy evolves into a clash of hearts and minds as the group struggles to find just a little bit of inner peace. In his seemingly altruistic efforts to dig into the inner workings of his clients, it becomes clear that Dr. Allen has his own deep dark secrets. With songs in an indie and folk rock vein that range from passionate and personal to anthemic, Group: a Musical is at once hilarious and devastating, infuriating and moving...a story where you can find yourself and the light at the end of the tunnel.

"GROUP...is the type of experience every small-theater production strives to be. It’s an experiment about an experiment and it succeeds on every level. Its grand achievement is a triumphant blend of humor, high drama, and music."

-Laurel Belgreen - SoCal.com

“Southard...is on to something genuine here, and the play’s wit and self-deprecation immediately win you over.”

-Charlotte Stoudt - Los Angeles Times

"The cast shows talent across the board, getting solid direction from Richard Tatum. The live musicians never falter. An original, relevant musical presented on a small stage sans big-budget frills is a gift"

- Amy Lyons - Backstage

"GROUP starts out promising, keeps getting better, and by the end of its second act, has earned every decibel of the audience cheers which erupted at Opening Night curtain calls."

-Steven Stanley - StageSceneLA

"GROUP is a thought provoking exploration of the passion, pain, defiance and loss that occurs in the process of growing up. It will touch your heart and remind you how fragile and how incredible this life really is."

-Ellen Dostal - Broadwayworld.com

"A beautiful musical about the connections we make when we let down our guard."

-Libby Hill - Co-host of TV On The Internet

"Lovely production!"

-Susan Grace - Grace Notes Stage
